Frequently asked questions about surf courses in Hvide Sande

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about learning to surf at the North Sea

Is the surf course in Hvide Sande for people who have never surfed before?

Yes – the course is 100% aimed at beginners. You don't need any experience with surfing or water sports. We start from scratch and guide you step by step so that you understand the waves, the technique and the safety. Our focus is that you feel safe and have a good experience from the first minute.

Can you really learn to surf in just two days?

Yes – the vast majority of participants are on their boards and surfing their first waves on day 1. Over two days you will have time to repeat, understand timing and build confidence, which gives significantly better progression than a single session. You will not only leave the course with an experience, but with a real understanding of surfing.

What makes Hvide Sande a good place to learn to surf?

Hvide Sande by the North Sea is one of the best places in Denmark to learn wave surfing because the beach is open, there is plenty of space, and the waves are often suitable for beginners. At the same time, we can always find a spot that matches your level and conditions on the day, which is crucial for a good first surfing experience.

Is it safe to surf if you are nervous about the ocean?

Yes. Safety is a central part of the teaching. We review behavior in the water, waves, currents and use stable beginner boards. The instructors are close at all times, and the teaching takes place in a safe environment. Many of our participants start with a certain amount of nervousness – and leave the water calm and confident.

What if there are no waves on the days I have booked?

If the conditions are not suitable for teaching, we will either adjust the time or find the best solution together. This rarely happens in Hvide Sande, but we never compromise on the quality of the experience. Our goal is that you get a real surfing experience – not just an hour in the water.

Is the surf course physically demanding – do you need to be in good shape?

No. A basic form is fine. Surfing is more about technique, timing and balance than strength. We take breaks, explain thoroughly and adjust the pace according to the group, so everyone can join in – even if you don't train daily.

Can you participate alone, or do you have to come with others?

You can easily participate alone. Many come on their own and quickly become part of the community on the team. The atmosphere at our surf courses is relaxed, inclusive and social, and it is completely normal to meet new people through surfing.

What is the difference between booking the entire course and just one day?

If you book the entire course (2 days), you will get the best price and the most consistent learning, as we can build on from day 1 to day 2. If you start with one day, you can always decide afterwards and sign up for day 2 if you feel like doing more.

Can you surf in the North Sea in spring and autumn?

Yes – and these are actually some of the best periods! May-June and September-October provide consistent waves at the North Sea, fewer people on the beach and still acceptable water temperatures. With our premium wetsuits it is entirely possible to surf from May to October. Many experienced surfers prefer these months to the height of summer.

What is included in the surf course – and do I need to bring my own equipment?

All necessary equipment is included: surfboard, wetsuit and safety gear. All you need to bring is your swimsuit, towel, water and sunscreen. We'll take care of the rest so you can focus fully on learning to surf.

Is the surf course for children, adults or the whole family?

The surf course is for both young and adults and also works really well as a shared experience for friends or families. If you are in doubt about age, level or whether the course is right for you, we always recommend contacting us - and we will find the right solution.
